About me

I believe people learn other languages to connect with one another, which is why I learned my second language. As the first-generation born in the United States, half of my family spoke a language I did not, and for some, like my grandparents, that was their only language. I spent my life dreaming of being able to speak with them and have them know and understand me based on what I could say to them.

Throughout my years as an English teacher, I’ve heard many reasons why people want to learn English. I often find myself thinking about how most of them relate to wanting to connect with others in a meaningful way: meeting people while traveling, explaining ideas better in business, or providing more opportunities for their children.

However, instead of focusing on connection or being understood, many people are hyper-focused on the right word choice or the name of a grammatical term to use in their situation. Learning a language calls us to be vulnerable, to bravely put ourselves into the world in a way we typically don’t, and many people think they can be hard on ourselves to fix it. In all my years of teaching, more often than not, it was the mental or emotional perception that held people back rather than their actual language skills.

But more than just a source of information, I want the resources I create to be a reassuring presence in your learning journey. I designed this space as someone who struggled to find accessible quality information herself while learning a language, with an emphasis on quality. I want to provide information that will help you so one day you won’t need me – there are not many schools or apps that can say that, huh?
